Emotion, Beauty and Fun at the Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival
Miami, and the iconic neighborhood of South Beach, has long been a stronghold for LGBT culture, known especially for its acceptance, activism, and progressive attitude. With such a vibrant locale, this is the perfect venue for the critically renowned Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival. The mission of this spectacular arts event is to provide an arena for thought, education, and expression through the art of film. There are several highly-anticipated films set to screen at this year’s festival. One of the most promising, Boulevard, is slated for opening night and stars the late comedian, Robin Williams. The Oscar-winning comedian and actor also starred in Birdcage, a well-known LGBT film that was set and shot right here in Miami Beach. In Boulevard, Williams’ character is a middle-aged man exploring his sexuality with a young hustler.
One of the other buzzworthy films slated for the festival is Naz & Maalik, which chronicles the story of two black, homosexual Muslims who accidentally set off an FBI investigation. Through social relevance, advanced storytelling, and high-brow cinematography, many of these films promise powerful experiences.
In addition to the long list of films set to play throughout the week, the Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival will also feature several different events and parties. The opening night film and party will be an elegant affair at SKYDECK Miami, beginning right after Boulevard. There will be several other soirees throughout the week, including the High Heel Party in the Gleason Room, Backstage at the Fillmore, and the Closing Night Party at Siena Tavern. The festival will conclude on Sunday, May 3rd with the Annual Awards Brunch at Biltmore Brunch.
