Fan favorite and Tony Award-winning musical Wicked makes a stop in Miami for an 18-day, 26-show stint at the Adrienne Arsht Center. The musical prequel of the classic tale of the Wizard of Oz — focusing on the relationship between the two witches, good and evil — is presented as part of Broadway in Miami’s spring season from March 11 through March 29.
Formally known as Wicked: The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz, the musical originally premiered in New York in 2003. That original production — with Kristin Chenoweth, Idina Menzel, and Joel Grey in its cast — won three Tony Awards, six Drama Desk Awards, and one Grammy Award. The Broadway version of the show remains one of New York’s top-selling shows and holds the title of NYC’s 11th-longest running show ever.
The popularity of Wicked: The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz on Broadway has inspired numerous world and North American tours. This spring’s North American tour, which stops in Miami, could be one of South Florida’s best-attended musical theater runs of all time, if Wicked’s past performances are any indication. The show holds box office records in markets such as Los Angeles, St. Louis, Chicago, and London.
