Eating healthy on vacation can be challenging. Thankfully, Miami Beach is filled with healthy restaurants to pick up a light, nutritious bite. Here are a few of our favorites.
DIRT’s motto is, Eat Clean, and the restaurant makes it easy with an simple menu, which classifies all dishes as so: vegan, vegetarian, paleo friendly, and/or gluten-free. You order at the counter, and the staff brings your food to the table. DIRT makes it a priority to use the freshest of ingredients from local farmers to create seasonal dishes like the Winter Plate—root vegetable mash and grilled kale with choice of protein. And while the veggie lovers can get their fill of juices and smoothies made daily, meat eaters will find welcoming dishes too like the Dirty Steak + Cheese made with herb-marinated grass-fed steak and jalapeno Monterey jack cheese.
Full Bloom is Miami’s first real sit-down vegan restaurant. None of this hybrid smoothie bar, cafe, health food store business… Here guests find intimate dining experiences complemented by amazing views of the Port of Miami, Biscayne Bay, and high rises of Downtown. Each dish has distinctions for gluten, soy, and oil, and it includes a variety of international flavors from chimichurri tempeh to pad thai and tiramisu. The mac and cheese is a must order.
With 750 square feet of organic growing space just behind the building, it doesn’t get much more farm-to-table than this. In addition, Essensia gets most of its seafood and meat from Florida as well as some more produce from local farmers during the growing season. The Tempura Avocado with tomato chipotle jam makes our mouth water because the spicy jam goes perfectly with the creaminess and crispiness of the avocado. Stop in for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
Apple A Day has juices, smoothie bowls, vegan dishes, gluten-free plates, raw options, and even sandwiches and burgers for “normal” folk. The clean white interior and large counters flank a fridge filled with juices of every color of the rainbow. Try the Loco Chipotle Burger (Vegan) with dairy-free Swiss cheese on an organic sprouted grain bun. It tastes so good that you wouldn’t even know it’s not made of meat if no one told you.
With eight locations having opened up in the last two years, Jugofresh is blowing up, and for good reason. Miami’s unofficial juice brand puts out 32 types of juices, 4 different boosted waters, 13 smoothies, as well as caffeine drinks and health shots. Stop in and grab a premade juice to go or have a signature bowl (acai, dragon fruit, etc.) made-to-order. Our favorite juice is the Alkaline Gangster with cucumber, celery, spinach, parsley, lemon, and ginger.
