When visiting South Beach, it can be easy to get caught up partying, eating, and shopping, but don’t forget about Miami’s very first tourist attraction—warm water! There are a ton of ways to enjoy the ocean besides lying on the sand.
Here are some of our favorite ways to get on the water in Miami Beach:
Deep Sea Fishing
For the avid angler, Miami is a great place to try your luck on a fishing charter like Top Gun, a 41’ Hatteras. Let Captain Nel take you out for a day of fishing, enjoy a twilight sunset cruise for tuna, or go out for the night in search of swordfish. Another fun option is to arrange for Captain Nel to take your party on a trip to the Bahamas. You can catch wahoo, dolphin, kingfish, sailfish, and marlin while trolling, or, if you prefer bottom fishing, you can go for some snapper, grouper, and cobia as well.
Miami is considered to be the shipwreck diving capital of the Americas. Tarpoon Lagoon Dive Center on Miami Beach can take you to see any of its many awesome dive sites, including a sunken Army tank or the DEMA Trader, a 165-foot freighter. The center offers classes for beginner and intermediate divers, and snorkel trips are also available.
A true Everglades wildlife experience, airboating is a must for nature lovers visiting Florida for the first time. There are a few companies like Miami Tours that will pick you up from the Blue Moon Hotel and take you out to the Everglades in an air-conditioned bus. You’re guaranteed to see some of the swamp’s famous alligators as well as creatures like deer, snakes, and eagles. In addition to the airboat ride, you’ll get to experience some animals up close with an alligator show and hikes on nature trails.
There is nothing like feeling the wind push you along on a sailboat. Miami Beach has plenty of exceptional places to sail including Biscayne Bay, with its of the skyline. Let Miami Sailing take your party out on a sunset and dinner cruise or explore Miami’s waters during the day or night.
Jetpack & Flyboarding
Ever dreamed of flying with a jetpack in real life? Well, your dreams can now become reality at Miami Watersports. You simply strap on a backpack attached to a hose that shoots water downwards and propels you up into the air. Flyboarding is the same concept, except the water shoots down from a board strapped to your feet. The staff at Miami Watersports will help you learn the ropes of this awesome new activity.
